The Blue Course is the 18-hole municipal track at East Potomac Golf Links located on Hains Point in DC. It’s a Walter Travis original from 1920, designed as a reversible course in the spirit of the Old Course at St. Andrews. Since the National Links Trust took over in 2020, the once-neglected muni has its character back. It’s flat, wide open, and walkable, with views of the Washington Monument and the Tidal Basin that make it a unique loop.
Don’t expect the polish of a country club or even a daily fee public course. It’s a blue collar, links-style muni with dive-bar charm and green fees that max out at $48. It plays fast and firm in the fall, but can get soggy through DC’s summer. Walk it, and if you want pace the earlier you tee off the better.
There’s a double-decker driving range with heated stalls on the bottom level. That opens late at 11:00 AM on Wednesdays. While chipping is prohibited on the putting greens, there are three practice holes available to book time on. Even though it’s within DC proper, there’s ample parking.
