I’m writing about golf in the DMV.

I’m Joe, and I’ve been playing golf in the DMV since I moved to the Virginia side of the Potomac in 2009. Prior to the 2020 COVID-boom, I enjoyed golf as an occasional recreational activity, zipping around the course in a cart with a freshly cracked cold beer on even-numbered holes, disregarding the score. Since then though, I’ve fallen in love with the game for other reasons.

It became my main source of exercise during the pandemic, and that holds true today. The walks and fresh air bring me back as much as the camaraderie, the goal of playing every course in the DMV, and the quest to play off a single-digit handicap. I’ve seen the pure views of the Washington Monument hundreds of times over as I’ve teed off on the 16th hole of the Blue Course at East Potomac Golf Links. Ate fresh biscuits and gravy before a day of loops at The Schoolhouse Nine. Hit the road at 6:00am to drive to the University of Maryland Golf Course. And as I am fortunate enough to play more architecturally significant and historical courses, I’ve become more interested in course design. My collection of design (and other golf) books has spilled out of the bookshelf around my house.

Now in 2026 I have the opportunity to spend a little less time in the office and a little more time on the course. So I started the site as a productive outlet for my golf addiction, a way to create and share a useful log of my local adventures. I envision it as a living guide of public, muni, and private courses in-and-around the DMV and beltway, for both casual golfers and golf sickos in the DMV.
